Ontario’s regional chief is calling on CN Rail to drop its injunction against Grassy Narrows protesters.
Stan Beardy says the Grassy Narrows Women’s Drum Group is just exercising their inherent treaty rights.
The group wanted to perform a traditional Anicinabe water ceremony on the CN mainline where it crosses Highway 671 to protest recent derailments in northern Ontario that resulted in oil being spilled into nearby lakes and rivers.
CN threatened to arrest anyone who blockaded the rail line.
Beardy says Canada and CN can no longer ignore the fact the rail lines are on treaty lands.
