Here is the latest “good news” from across the region…..
The Ontario government (NOHFC) recently committed $500,000 to build a brand-new food bank in Sioux Lookout, significantly boosting local food security efforts.
In a major move to address housing shortages, the Township of Ignace has partnered with a Thunder Bay developer to build the town’s first-ever new housing subdivision. This project is expected to support future growth and provide much-needed options for seniors.
Over $10.7 million is being invested across the North to upgrade bridges and culverts. This will improve safety and reliability for the winter road networks that connect many remote First Nations to hubs like Red Lake and Sioux Lookout.
Labor Peace: Nearly 125 Unifor members at Community Living Dryden–Sioux Lookout ratified new contracts in late March, averting strike action and ensuring continued care for residents in the community.
Cardiac Care Partnership: A new partnership between the Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre, SLFNHA, and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre is bringing specialized heart failure care directly to the region, reducing the need for patients to travel to Toronto or Winnipeg.
Sioux Lookout is kicking off its popular “Curb Side Swaps” this month. Starting the second Saturday of April, residents can place reusable items at the curb for neighbors to pick up—a great way to declutter and support local recycling.
That’s all good news!
