Plans to split the riding of Kenora-Rainy River into two is being welcomed by a candidate looking to represent the PC party in the next provincial election.
The Far North Electoral Boundaries Commission recommends the north section becoming a separate riding.
Douglas Judson says the move makes sense.
Judson says the Commission has recognized that the Far North has unique infrastructure, health, travel and public service needs compared to more urban centres like Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances.
He says he hasn’t been able to reach the northern communities during his early campaign tour, stressing the distance is just too much.
Judson believes cutting the riding in half will result in more representation for this region.
He still plans to run in the new look Kenora-Rainy River Riding.
The local PC party has been waiting for the electoral boundary issue to be settled before setting nomination meeting dates.
The recommended changes are expected to be approved this Fall.
