Relay for Life Raises Quarter Million

Four town – four relays – one incredible night. When the Annual Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life ended early Saturday morning, over 250 thousand dollars had been raised toward finding a cure. That works out to over 20 thousand dollars per hour during the 12 hour relay.

This years’ event was held in four communities simultaneously; Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Ear Falls. For those keeping score, Red Lake raised over 106 thousand, Dryden came in at 58 thousand, Sioux Lookout brought in 57 thousand and Ear Falls, holding its first Relay in a few years, raised 32 thousand dollars for the night.

Totals are unofficial and are expected to increase somewhat as team fund raising projects wrap up.

As the Official Radio Station of the Relay for Life, CKDR broadcast a special “Musical Marathon” for 13 hours, interrupted only by interviews with team members and others from each community.
