A study on breastfeeding has found low rates among aboriginal women in northwestern Ontario.
The study involving Lakehead University and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit found just 69% of native mothers surveyed were breastfeeding.
The rate among all women in Ontario and Canada has increased into the high 80’s.
Lakehead University’s Dr. Karen McQueen says the reasons for the gap were not explored.
McQueen says the findings lead to the need for increased health promotion.
