Residents unhappy with Rainy Lake level

Many residents and resort owners along Rainy Lake have been concerned about high water levels in recent years.

Many of those concerns were brought to the attention recently of the International Joint Commission, the agency which regulates border waters.

Although the Border Lakes Association supported an IJC rule curve change in 2000, spokesperson Randy Posniac feels it is time to reevaluate things.

Posniac’s group feel IJC officials should never allow Rainy Lake to go above the 50 percent level of the band in early spring.

Public comments were sought at meetings in International Falls and Stratton and IJC officials promise to give their feedback soon.
