The City of Dryden has supported a motion to reinstate the spring bear hunt.
Mayor Sid Wintle says council realizes how important the hunt was to the area.
He says an even bigger concern is nuisance bears which he feels this motion will address.
Wintle adds most communities in the region have supported similar motions.
The Ontario Black Bear Association put forth the resolution.
The OBBA claims nuisance bears are out of control and more cubs than ever are being orphaned.
The provincial government cancelled the spring bear hunt in 1999.
