Richard Arthur DeVall
July 8, 1922 – December 19, 2007
After a lengthy illness Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Pamela Dora, in 2004, and his sisters Mary Sollen and Nellie Mudrey
He is survived by his children: Hilary (Mic) Reynolds, Richard Jr. (Connie) Christine (Bill) Luchka, Lyn (Joe) Powne, Jill (George) Fielder and Faye DeVall. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy (Jim) Finch and Bertha (Tom) Chupa.
Richard was born in North Dakota. He joined the army (Queens Own Cameron Highlanders) at age 17 in 1939 and was wounded in France in 1945. He has been a member of the Fort Frances Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion since the war. It was during his time in England that he met and married his war bride, whom he brought to Canada in 1946. They raised their family in Fort Frances before moving to Dryden after retirement to be near their children.
Dad was a great outdoorsman and spent many hours fishing and hunting. Gardening was another great interest of his. He also loved to bird watch and had many bird feeders and books on the subject.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 22nd at 4:00 p.m. in the Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel” with Rev. Pat Cleghorn officiating. Placement of ashes in the Dryden Cemetery Columbarium will take place at a later date.
