Rickford Introduces Pipeline Safety Act

The Natural Resources Minister has unveiled the Pipeline Safety Act.
Rickford says the act gives new abilities to the National Energy Board.
Pipeline companies can no longer walk away from safety commitments.
Rickford says if a company doesn’t immediately respond to an incident, the NEB has the power to take over and recover all costs from industry.
He says the bill will also hold companies responsible for 1 billion dollars no matter the cause of an incident.
Rickford adds under the legislation the government can also pursue environmental damages during the entire lifetime of a pipeline.
