A group of Northern First Nations is expected to sign an agreement today (Wednesday) in Thunder Bay to ensure they benefit from mining and exploration activities in the Ring of Fire mining zone.
Chiefs from Landsdowne House, Summer Beaver, Fort Hope and Webequie First Nations say the deal is expected to change how mining companies will work with First Nations in the Ring of Fire area.
The Ring of Fire, about 500 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay, is believed to host large deposits of chromite and nickel.
