The province has a deal in place with several area First Nations to build an All-Season Access Road into the Ring of Fire.
Premier Kathleen Wynne made the announcement in Thunder Bay this morning and pointed out it was made with collaboration of area First Nations.
“Today we can celebrate that this thoughtful and consolidated approach has meant that we can move forward because these roads are very much needed. We are talking about a couple of roads that will link these communities to the main highway system.”
They hope to have shovels in the ground by 2019.
The province is also supporting an east-west road connecting Webequie and Nibinamik communities to the provincial highway network north of Pickle Lake.
The government is also backing Marten Falls First Nation’s plan to construct an access road connecting the community to the existing provincial highway network at Aroland/Nakina.
