Ronald Hayward Thorburn

Ron (Jake) age 75 passed away peacefully at the DRHC on Saturday, Oct. 15 after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Helen. Ron is survived by his loving wife Helen, sons Ian (Ina) and Andrew, and granddaughter Ashley.

Ron was born in McAdam, N.B. on March 7, 1936. He loved playing hockey, baseball and basketball. In later years, it was curling and golf. After completing Radio school, he worked on a Greek ship and travelled the world. In 1958, Ron came to Minaki to work with the MNR and a year later, began working at the Dryden Paper Mill steam plant until his retirement in 1994.

Ron had a passion for history and relished tracing his family roots. He loved telling stories and family was important to him. During Ron’s life he was a volunteer in the Anglican Church, Boy Scouts, Conservation Club and other organizations. He loved the outdoors and travel took him to many places. He especially loved going to Cuba.

A Memorial Funeral Service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held on Wednesday October 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Luke’s Anglican Church with Father Dick Kennedy officiating.
