Salvation Army shows off new emergency truck

Kenora’s Salvation Army has a new vehicle at its disposal.

It called an Emergency Disaster Services Truck.

Dan Millar is the assistant Emergency Services director for the Salvation Army in the region and says the truck comes with a fully equipped kitchen.

“So, it has its own generator…it has its own refrigerators…it has all the cooking utensils needed and the supplies to go with it,” says Millar.

“Sometimes we’ll bring a trailer with it so that we have all the food supplies.”

Major Rick Zilinski is the Salvation Army’s Emergency Services Director for the region and says it contains everything they need to feed first responders and people affected by the emergency.

“I liken it to a really fancy food truck, and they’re designed to be able to go into emergency situations and to provide cooking and food on the spot to serve people responding to a disaster, like a wildfire, for example.”

Zilinski says the truck will be stationed in Kenora but can be used throughout northwestern Ontario, where-ever there is an evacuation due to a forest fire, flood or other emergency.
