It continues to be a tense situation in northern Saskatchewan as crews from all parts of the nation try to get a handle on more than 100 out-of-control wildfires.
Mort Harbicht and wife Kristine, who is originally from Dryden, have a home in La Ronge, but are spending their summer at their fly-in camp north of the community.
Mort says they aren’t in the epicentre but at times they can only see a couple of yards in front of them due to thick smoke.
He notes they are surrounded by wildfires.
Mort says most of the resources are centred around La Ronge and warns if flames make their way north, they probably will be on their own.
He notes most of the community of La Ronge has been evacuated to southern Saskatchewan or Alberta.
Mort says the current situation was predictable as Spring water levels went down an inch.
He adds says it was a dry winter with very little snow cover.
