The Natural Resources Defense Council in the United States has declared the Boreal Forest in Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba a bio-gem.
Spokesperson Susan Casey-Lefkowitz says they are encouraging the Provincial Governments to take steps to preserve the Boreal in the Red Lake-Pikangikum area.
She says the area is one of the last unspoiled forests in the world.
The group has started a letter writing campaign which will be presented to the McGuinty Government.
