The International Institute for Social Development says its not commenting on reports that it’s currently in negotiations with the federal government to take over the Experimental Lakes Area, west of Vermilion Bay.
Save ELA spokesperson Peter Kirby says that it’s an open secret the group was in talks with the government.
Kirby says time is now of the essence as the science stops on March 31st.
Earlier this week, the incoming president and CEO of the IISC, Steve Vaughn, said he would take over the ELA in a heartbeat.
Kirby suggests talks are moving slowly.
Kirby compares the ELA to the Avro Arrow, and says once the research stops at the Experimental Lakes area it will be impossible to bring it back.
