Dryden Police are out with a warning about a scam that has ended in a local resident having to pay back $25,000.
The victim received a cheque from a so-called “friend”, and was told to cash it and send some to two people in different countries.
Then the victim was told to keep $1,000 as a token of appreciation.
However, once all the transactions were complete and the $1,000 was spent, the cheque was revealed to be a fake, and the victim now owes the bank.
Police say the sender of the cheque had befriended the victim over several months, gaining her trust.
