School Board Eyeing Solar Project

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is hoping to secure Provincial funding to install a 30-kilowatt solar power system at Open Roads School in Dryden.
The system is designed to go on the flat roof over the gymnasium.
Facilities Manager Kim Carlson says the system will help keep costs down.
Carlson says the technology also acts as a teaching tool as the photovoltaic system comes with software that allows students watch how they are reducing their carbon footprint.
The $422,000 project hinges on a funding application to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, which would cover half of the costs.
Carlson notes construction of the new school is running smoothly.
