The face of educating our youth in northwestern Ontario continues to change.
The Rainy River District School Board is looking at several options in Atikokan, including building a new school to house both North Star Elementary students and High School students under one roof.
Chair Dianne McCormack says one of the issues driving the process is the fact that Atikokan High School is becoming too costly to repair.
McCormack says they will be conducting consultations with the community over the next month or so.
The Board’s preferred option would see Atikokan High School torn down and replaced.
The estimated cost of a new school is about $20-million, which still needs provincial approval.
