Local school boards are still in the dark when it comes to their budgets for 2015.
Phylis Eikre is the Director of Education with the Kenora Catholic District School Board, which oversees St. John’s School in Red Lake, and she says they hope to find out what their grant allocations will be shortly.
Eikre says the biggest area of concern right now is special education funding.
She notes they remain optimistic as the Ministry of Education is in the midst of changes to the funding formula for special education.
There have been suggestions school boards could be looking at a decrease in funding of anywhere from 1.5%-2%.
Eikre adds it would be difficult for them if funding doesn’t increase, because their enrolment has been steadily going up.
Meantime, a NDP motion to halt cuts to education, as well as healthcare, childcare, transportation and housing has been rejected by the Liberal dominated house.

School Budgets Could Be Known As Early As Thursday
