School boards across the province are starting to look for
new ways of discipling students who run afoul of the law.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is following the lead of a couple of boards in southern Ontario to see if it can implement a restorative justice program.
Sean Montieth made a presentation to the public school board this week and says there are better ways of dealing with students who get in trouble, other than simply suspending them.

Montieth says some of the ideas being looked at include
sharing or listening circles, which are used in the court system and also first nation communities.
He adds that the school board is just in the preliminary stages of looking at how to implement the restorative
justice program on a board-wide basis.
