Two exploration companies are working together in a search for lithium in northwestern Ontario.
The focus for B.C.-based Libra Energy Materials and U.S.-based Kobold Metals is on two properties at Flanders, west of Atikokan and another south of Pickle Lake.
The work comes on the heels of an agreement the two companies signed in December, in which KoBold agreed to cover the exploration costs.
“The launch of the field program marks the next step of a KoBold-funded $33 million earn-in agreement, aimed at unlocking the potential of these high-priority lithium projects, leveraging KoBold’s artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies and Libra’s proven exploration expertise,” a release states.
Kolbold has the backing of notable individuals such as Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.
The areas are identified as having high-grade lithium and have become high-priority projects given the demand for critical minerals.
Field work at the Flanders site started last month.
Initial findings are to be made public soon.
