There are signs the Coast Guard base in Kenora could be staying open a little longer than had been announced.
Diane Schwartz-Williams is the Executive Director of the Lake of the Woods District Property Owners Association and she has been told by the federal government that the future of the base will have to wait until after public consultation is complete.
She says the review process could take up to two years to complete.
Schwartz-Williams says they have been told that their group will be able to have a say in any potential decision.
Initially the union representing Coast Guard workers indicated bases in Kenora, Selkirk, Manitoba and Gimli, Manitoba would be closing by the end of this boating season.
