Severe Weather Training Coming To Dryden

Environment Canada is hoping to get more eyes on the ground in the event of a major storm in northwestern Ontario.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson is holding CANWARN Storm Spotter training in Dryden on Thursday at 7:00pm at the Dryden Fire Service Training Centre.

Coulson says the training is free and is for anyone interested in severe weather and what to look for in the sky.

Coulson notes the spotters and timely eye-witness reports help them understand these storms better and helps improve their Weather Watch and Warning program.

He notes the key elements they look for include large hail, flash floods, damaging winds and tornadoes.

Coulson says he will also provide Summer Severe Weather Safety tips in the event of lightning strikes or tornadoes.

You must register for the public training session and you can do so by contacting Geoff at geoff.coulson@canada.ca

He’s hosting similar sessions in Thunder Bay, Kenora and the Fort Frances area.
