Sid Straight passed away on November 9, 2012 at Princess Court in Dryden, Ontario with his family by his side. Sid was born in Hamilton, Ontario on August 6, 1916 and celebrated his 96th birthday this year. Sid was the eldest child of William and Edith Straight and spent his childhood surrounded by family and friends.
He married Viola Mills and together they had two children. The family lived in Hamilton, Kitchener and Halifax while Sid worked as an appliance repair man for Westinghouse Canada. Sid’s wife Viola passed away in 1965 and he dedicated himself to raising his two children as a single parent. Sid was a wonderful friend and father who loved the outdoors. Following his retirement he enjoyed winters in Florida and time with family and friends.
Sid was predeceased by his parents and Brother Ernie Straight of Hamilton and later Kenora, Ontairo. Sid is survived by his daughter Joanne Ritchie of Burlington and son Glenn and Wife Christine of Dryden, Grandchildren:Mathew Ritchie of Burlington, Justine Ritchie (Rob) of Hamilton, Melissa Corriveau (Justin) and Tyler Straight (Carey) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Justin Brown (Alicia) Great Grandson, Ryder of Fort Frances and Lyndon Brown of Dryden.
Dad lived a rich and healthy life enjoying the simple things like the beauty of nature and the company of his family and special friends. In keeping with those values and his wishes cremation has taken place. Internment will be at a later date, where he and Viola will be together again at WoodlandCemetery in Kitchener, Ontario.
