Shocking news out of the SIJHL as the Schreiber Diesels have folded.
Commissioner Ron Whitehead says the move is unfortunate and
notes the League will spend the next couple of days trying to figure out
what to do with the remaining schedule, what to do with the points already accumulated and the status of the players on the Diesels.
Whitehead expects the players to become free agents but since most
teams don’t have available cards, most likely won’t see the ice this
season.
Owner Bill MacLaurin pulled the plug stating he’s disappointed with the
attendance in Schreiber but notes other reasons factored in.
The defending SIJHL champions were supposed to host the Dudley Hewitt
Cup next season.
Rumors have also been swirling about the status of the Marathon
Renegades but the club has maintained they are committed to finishing the
season.
News of the Schreiber Diesels sudden troubles has sent shockwaves
across the SIJHL.
Dryden Ice Dogs President Clyde Paulson says they have lost a solid
Partner.
Paulson says the league and the Ice Dogs will continue to move forward
and will continue to offer fans an exciting product.
He says teams across the league are dealing with financial issues
but vows the Ice Dogs will continue to forge ahead.
The Ice Dogs will close out 2007 Wednesday at home against Fort Frances.
