Sioux Lookout just got back from the largest mining convention in the world.
Economic Development Manager, Vicki Blanchard attended the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s International Convention for the municipality and tells CKDR why it was important to attend.
“The importance is to put Sioux Lookout on the map, there are other small municipal communities in the north that are doing it, so it’s important for Sioux Lookout being located along the northern gateway to one of the larger projects–being the Ring of Fire.”
Other small municipal communities that are getting on the map are Greenstone, Thunder Bay, Red Lake and Sudbury.
Blanchard had the chance to talk to Tamaka Gold while she was at the convention.
“But more importantly we reviewed 12 other companies that have claims in the area that are sitting dormant at this time. We were able to attract King’s Bay Gold to start talking with us, and hopefully we will be able to pursue projects that will assist all the companies in the area that have claims identifying the resources under the ground,” she says.
The convention has been taking place since 1932 with over 30,000 attendees and 125 countries in attendance.
