Sioux Lookout By-Election Deadline Tomorrow

Time is running out to submit your papers if you are interested in a vacant Council seat in Sioux Lookout.

The deadline to file nomination papers is Friday, December 13th at 2:00pm.

Manager of Corporate Services and Municipal Clerk Brian MacKinnon outlines the criteria to be an “eligible elector”.

-A person is entitled to be an elector if, on Voting Day, Monday, January 20th, 2020, he/she:
1. resides in the local municipality or is the owner or tenant of land in the local municipality, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
2. is a Canadian citizen;
3. is at least 18 years old; and
4. is not prohibited from voting under subsection 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, or otherwise, by law.

As of December 10th, three candidates filed the necessary paperwork.

They include Connor Howie, Nick Costello, Darlene Angeconeb.

The final list will be made official on Monday, December 16th.

Voting doesn’t take place until mid-January.

The one Council position became open following the September passing of popular Councillor Calvin Southall.
