The Mayor of Sioux Lookout is looking at revamping the way justice programs are carried out in northwestern Ontario.
Doug Lawrance will meet with Ontario Attorney General Yasir Naqvi in Ottawa this week.
He says they can improve things throughout the justice system by trying to recognize how people become involved in the system in the first place.
Lawrance also notes indigenous people tend to have their own way of resolving conflict as well which should be recognized.
Lawrance says the supports needed include appropriate Emergency Shelters with adequate resources, temporary family treatment centres with adequate space as well as detox centres.
He also focuses on how the area continues to be plagued by a serious homelessness issue and he believes some steps can be taken to resolve the problem.
