Sioux Lookout OPP officers cleared by the SIU

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has cleared the OPP in Sioux Lookout of any wrongdoing after an intoxicated man sustained a broken collarbone.

The incident took place back in June, after two officers escorted the 48 year from a hotel to the OPP detachment.

The SIU says the suspect was unsteady on his feet as officers took him to the police cells.

He managed to get out of his handcuffs and grabbed onto the cell bars, but was forced inside by the officers.

While being pushed into the cell, he fell and hit his head and shoulder.

When he was released from custody he was taken to hospital and had to be air ambulanced to Thunder Bay for surgery.

Despite the injuries, the SIU says there were no grounds to conclude there was a criminal offense.
