The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is looking at innovative way to create energy with help from Finnopool New Market Development.
Town officials recently met with a delegation of about 8 industry, government and education leaders from Finland to discuss bio-mass and energy opportunities.
Mayor Doug Lawrance says they want to benefit from Finland’s know-how and innovative solutions.
Lawrance notes that Finland doesn’t have oil, natural gas, solar or wind power so they use their forests more efficiently than anywhere else on the planet.
He mentions they take advantage of the fact that 86-percent of their land is covered by forest.
Lawrance also says the meeting is the result of creative thinking from their Economic Development Manager as well as the fact that Sioux Lookout is one of the only communities in Ontario with no natural gas.
