A Regional Distribution and Northern Logistics Centre is being constructed at the Sioux Lookout Regional Airport.
The announcement was made Friday morning in Thunder Bay.
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Creewest Air Services, Lac Seul First Nation and KI First Nation.
The project is two years in the making and will help meet the demand for affordable and accessible local, fresh food as well as consumer goods in the Far North.
Creewest will provide warehousing for aboriginal communities and will examine affordable logistics and shipping of healthy food and essential goods.
The Centre will be able to lower shipping costs, consolidate deliveries and help in emergencies.
No timetable has been set.
