Sioux North Helping Students Make Jump To High School

As distance education continues at schools across the region, students and parents may be thinking about next school year.

For Grade 8 students this would mean a transition to high school and Sioux North is making sure students know what to expect, even during a pandemic.

Vice Principal Jennifer McMaster says “Our transition team has put together a transition portal where students can access those activities in an online environment and still experience the transition activities that typically prepare them for Grade 9.”

McMaster says the portal provides a virtual tour which provides new students with the locations of where classrooms, lockers and bathrooms are in the school.

She adds “We teach students how to open a combination lock. They get to meet teachers and learn about each of the different elective areas. It should help them ease their minds and help them feel more confident transitioning to high school.”

McMaster notes the portal also offers a number of fun activities where students can earn prizes.
