The man who first said “Bond. James Bond’ is gone.
The entertainment world has lost Sir Sean Connery
His family announced he passed away today at the age of 90.
The Scottish actor was best known for playing James Bond in seven films beginning with the low budget “Dr. No” in 1962. Connery was just 32 and Bond creator Ian Flemming was oppossed to his getting the role, saying he wanted a “Commander James Bond” and not a ‘pretty boy.’ After the movie’s success, Flemming admitted his mistake and created a Scots background in several of the later Bond books to match Connery’s pronounced accent.
While Bond was his most famous role, Connery won his only Oscar for best supporting actor in “The Untouchables” in 1988.
The family of fellow James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore is sending their condolences, saying the two were friends for decades. Moore passed away in 2017.
How infinitely sad to hear the news Sir Sean Connery has passed away. He and Roger were friends for many decades and Roger always maintained Sean was the best ever James Bond. RIP
