SIU Clears OPP Officer In Pikangikum Incident

The province’s civilian police watchdog says no criminal charges are warranted against a Provincial Police officer after an incident in Pikangikum First Nation in October of 2016.

That’s where a 43-year-old man sustained serious injuries to his hand and elbow while the officer was attempting to arrest him for drinking and driving.

The director of the Special Investigations Unit has concluded he’s satisfied that the officers actions fell within the limits of the law and there are no grounds to believe he committed a criminal offence.
