SIU investigates injury in Pikangikum

The OPP has called in the Ontario Special Investigations Unit following an injury to a suspect on the Pikangikum First Nation.

The incident took place Wednesday morning around 9 am when police responded to a call for service.

Officers arrested a suspect following their investigation and placed them in custody, where the individual reported an injury.

They were subsequently transported to the nursing station for treatment.

No other details about the case has been released as the SIU has invoked its mandate.

The SIU is called in anytime a person is injured in police custody.
