SIU releases more details on Wapekeka First Nation shooting

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has released more details on a fatal police shooting on the Wapekeka First Nation.

The incident took place last Thursday inside the community’s Youth Center, which was being used as a courtroom.

Preliminary information shows a police officer was approached by a man armed with a knife.

The SIU says an interaction ensued, and the officer fired his gun.

A 24-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified by Wapekeka First Nation as Tyresse Kenny Padro Cree Roundsky.
