A potentially tragic situation was averted thanks to the quick actions of a transport driver Thursday morning.
Dryden Fire was dispatched around 3 o’clock after receiving a call of a tractor-trailer unit on fire in a supermarket parking lot on Highway 17.
With help from other truckers, the blaze was extinguished.
Deputy Fire Chief Ken Kurz says an alert trucker woke up the sleeping driver of the transport as the fire was growing.
At the same time, Dryden Fire had to deal with a hazardous materials fluid leak from the ruptured lines under the truck.
Public Works crews were called to assist in the spill cleanup and the parking lot was mopped up.
