Small Forest Fire During Damp Times

The forest fire situation in northwestern Ontario remains fairly quiet.

Just one new blaze Monday afternoon, and that was in the area of Reef Point Road, about 11 kilometres northeast of Fort Frances.

It was quickly extinguished after reaching only 0.1 hectare in size.

Fire officials believe it was caused by a downed tree on a power line.

In the meantime, there have been 78 fires in all of Ontario this year compared to 245 for the same period last year.

Only 11 fires have sparked in the northwest region this season.

The fire hazard remains low to moderate.
