Smoke Covers District

Red Lake and Sioux Lookout area residents are dealing with heavy smoke
today after a number of forest fires over the weekend.
The smoke has now drifted to Dryden and Vermilion Bay and is expected
to hang around for a couple of days.
Ministry of Natural Resources Information Officer Debbie Mclean says
crews are fighting about 30 lightning caused fires in remote areas of the far north.
Mclean says the long weekend was one of the busiest of the fire
season with 119-new fires reported across the Northwest District.
She says fire personnel and equipment are taxed to the limit.
Anyone concerned about the smoke is asked to contact the Health Unit
or call the MNR at 1-888-258-8842.
