After more than a year of testimony and waiting, it appears bar and restaurant owners and the Northwestern Health Unit will finally know the fate of the blanket smoking ban.
The Health Services Appeal and Review Board says its ruling will be made public by the end of the week.
Either the Health Unit or the Freedom of Choice Coalition can appeal the decision to Divisional Court if they choose.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Pete Sarsfield is confident the decision will sway in their favor but is prepared to take it to the next level.
Sarsfield says the Province plans to introduce legislation on a smoking ban, so why not rule on the Health Unit’s side now.
No word from the Ministry of Health as to the exact timing of the announcement.
