Snowfall Warning Issued For Dryden and Area

Environment Canada and CKDR Meteorologist Bill Laidlaw agree – the Dryden area is going to see a pile of snow in the next 24 to 36 hours.

A “Snow Fall Warning” has been issued for the Highway 17 corridor including Kenora, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Ignace and English River.

Snow will start this evening and will be heaviest through the morning and Thursday. Environment Canada expects total amounts of about 15 cm expected by Thursday evening.

Other area communities are under ‘Special Weather Statements.’

Snow combined with strong northeasterly winds of 40 to 70 km/h may create hazardous driving conditions due to low visibilities in snow and blowing snow.

The strong wind accompanying any wet snow accumulation on trees could also result in power outages across portions of the region.

This winter weather is attributed to an Alberta Clipper that is forecast to track into northern Minnesota on Thursday.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
