Snowmobiling Safety From The Dryden Police

Some snowmobiling safety tips from the Dryden Police.
Community Service Officer Kevin Hildebrand says it’s important to know where you can and CAN’T drive your snowmobile.
Except to cross at a right angle, no one can operate a snowmobile on any of the following highways:
– Highway 17 from the intersection of Grand Trunk Avenue and Marguerite Street east to the intersection of Government Street and Duke Street
– Van Horne Avenue between Arthur Street and the intersection of Van Horne Avenue with Ross Street
– Goodall Street between Van Horne Avenue and the intersection of Goodall and McMillan Avenue
– Casmir Avenue between Arthur Street and the intersection of Casmir and Parkdale Road
– Colonization Avenue between the Canadian Pacific Railway right-of-way and the intersection of Colonization and Princess Street
– Colonization Avenue between the intersection of Colonization and Arthur Street and the intersection of Colonization and Parkdale Road
– The serviced roadway portion of Highway 17 from the west boundary line of the City of Dryden up to the intersection of Grand Trunk Avenue and Marguerite Street and from the intersection of Government Street and Duke Street to the east boundary line of the City of Dryden.

In addition, snowmobiling is not allowed on a sidewalk except for the purpose of crossing the sidewalk at right angles. Snowmobiles are not allowed in any parks within the City of Dryden, except Sandy Beach Park at the shore of Wabigoon Lake and north along the western boundary of the park to the south side of Sandy Beach Road.
Operation of a snowmobile is prohibited between 1am and 6am.
Some other tips include:
– stay on the right side of the trail
– obey speed limits (20km/hr)
– be aware of ice conditions
– avoid driving along road shoulders
– check your snowmobile before heading out and let someone know of your destination
