Softwood Lumber And Spring Bear Hunt Highlight NOMA-Provincial Talks

The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is asking the provincial government to protect our lumber mills.

President Dave Canfield says he is coming off a productive meeting with the new Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry Katherine McGarry.

He says one of their main concerns is protecting Ontario’s market share in any future Softwood Lumber agreement.

Canfield says local communities can’t afford any sort of reduction right now, noting the sector is starting to rebound.

Canfield says NOMA has been stressing the importance of our lumber industry, not only to the economy, but also to the province’s climate change targets.

The cost of hunting licence’s and the spring bear hunt were other topics of discussion with McGarry.

Canfield says he made a call to expand the hunt in our area and address the current price of tags.
