Municipalities trying to decide if they want a cannabis store in their boundary may get some extra time to decide.
The province wants newly-elected councils to make a decision by January 22.
In a speech to the Empire Club of Canada, Attorney General Caroline Mulroney says there will be some flexibility.
“The benefit of the opting-in decision is that it doesn’t have to be made on January 22. Municipalities have the chance to see how things develop over time and they can opt-in at a later date,” says Mulroney.
Mulroney believes the issue has been top of mind for many municipal candidates and already formed an opinion on the issue one way or another.
