The Assembly of First Nations calls yesterday an important day
and a first step toward the renewal of the relationship between
First Nations and Canada.
But national chief Shawn Atleo says getting back to that
relationship means eliminating the Indian Act.
The two sides pledged fundamental change to their relationship
after a day of talks in Ottawa.
They’ve agreed to move forward on five separate areas, including
self-governance and economic development.
