It is with great sadness that the family of Sophie Desautels announce her passing on July 9, 2013 at the Dryden Regional Health Center at the age of 74.
Sophie is survived by her children Randy (Shannon), Perry, Lorie and daughter-in-law Kim. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Justin, Kyle and Kassie. She will also be missed by her brother Nick Kriska and sisters Doris Boychuk and Katherine Ambrosichuk. She was predeceased by her husband Roger, son Wayne, parents Annie and John Kriska, brothers Mike, Alec and George Kriska and sisters Mary Shott and Lena Bealieau.
Sophie was born in Gardenton, Manitoba. She and her sister Lena came to Dryden. Sophie met Roger at the Cavalier Restaurant. Lena went back and Sophie stayed with Roger. Roger and Sophie began their life together and resided at the Desautels farm.
For many years the farm was a gathering place for family and friends. Roger and Sophie always made everyone feel welcome. Many summer holidays were also spent at the Kriska farm in Gardenton, Manitoba where all of Sophie’s family would gather.
Sophie was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and mother-in-law anyone could wish for. She was never judgmental, always supportive and never meddling. She loved and lived for her grandchildren, family and friends. She welcomed everyone with open arms. Sophie loved knitting, doing puzzles, flowers and gardening, picking berries, cooking, watching her kids play baseball and playing with her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday July 12, 2013 from 9:00am until 11:00am. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Sophie will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00am at the Dryden Community Funeral Home Chapel with Father Al Campeau officiating. Interment to follow at the Dryden Cemetery.
