Events at Ontario’s 2011 Special Olympics Winter Games are delayed today (Friday) in Thunder Bay.
The frigid weather has delayed competition.
The official kickoff took place Thursday night with a spectacular opening ceremony.
More than 300 athletes were welcomed with performances, tributes and a roaring applause from the crowd.
One of the highlights of the night was the Law Enforcement Torch Run, with police from across the province running the Olympic torch into the Auditorium to be lit in front of the crowd.
The Games were officially opened by Thunder Bay’s Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes, who joined the ceremony via a video message.
