Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence has left her hospital
bed and is basking in acclaim from fellow chiefs and activists following a six-week hunger protest in the name of aboriginal rights.
She has arrived at a downtown Ottawa hotel to a chorus of cheers, chants and applause.
She is planning to sign a declaration of commitment already
endorsed by other chiefs and opposition politicians.
Spence expressed gratitude to all those who supported her during her cold vigil on Victoria Island, just upstream from Parliament Hill.
She says it’s time to stick together no matter what hardships could be in store.
Spence spent the night in hospital after agreeing to end her hunger protest, which began Dec. 11.
