For over a decade, the Dryden Genealogical Society has held ‘Spirit Walks’ at the Dryden Cemetery each July.
“Spirit Walks” are walking tours of the cemetery, pausing at 10 or 12 headstones along the way to talk about the person or people who are buried there.
While Tuesday’s ‘walk’ was cancelled due to heavy rain, three dozen or so showed up Thursday evening for the presentation.
Among those featured this year were long time residents like Rocco “Rocky” Leonzio, local character Doris Powell and Gilbert Coutts who went stormed the beaches at Normandy in the Second World War, only to be taken prisoner and held in a German P.O.W. camp.

Dryden Genealogical Society President Will Vermeer says the group strives to remember those who have gone before us, reminding us of who they were and what they did. The Dryden Genealogical Society meets monthly.
